Studio Practice
Overview
The following is my studio practice during my master study in University of the Arts London. There are mainly 5 series of paintings: Fantasy Landscape, Whale in Woods, Music Box, Psychedelic Art and The Art of Mushrooms. I focus on the fantasy elements and the way I imagine how nature, how the forest, landscape would be.
Landscape
From the time I studied my Bachelor in Taiwan to now I study my Master degree, I used to paint landscapes. I still continue the series doing that. I like landscape, as it depicts the beauty of nature. I like realistic landscape paintings, with one of the reasons for the painting and teaching style of my professor in Taiwan; http://www.hsiehhongda.com.tw/english/english_appreciate.html
His works inspire me to create realistic landscapes.

There are two parts composing my painting, the first one is the base, which is the forest I chose while the second one is the fantasy elements I add, such as portal and mushrooms.

Whale in Woods
This is the second series of my studio work for unit 1. It is about a whale surviving in the forest. I set the killer whale as my self-portrait.

Music Box
The third series is an illustration of a music box with a forest inside and a robot dancing ballet, which I would like to indicate it as myself.

Psychedelic Mushrooms, Oil on Canvas
Emptiness, Oil on Canvas
The above painings are the studio practice for my Unit 2 project. I created 3 paintings. To carry on from my Unit 1 project, I created a fantasy painting, Abandoned.

But after that I think more about what paint can do. I tried apparently a monochrome style of painting for my second painting and also investigate what effects can the brushwork create, that I created my second work Psychedelic Mushrooms.
The followings are three series of painting I did in Unit 4, for the degree show in September, as well as Abandoned, which is done in Unit 2. With my interest towards mushroom, I started doing research on mushrooms, in terms of species and their symbolic meanings in different cultures and literatures.
The Glow of the Other World
Another Mushroom painting, depicting one of the most famous mushrooms of all, Fly Agaric, Amanita muscaria. I tried to use the colour scheme of psychedelic art and mainly used fluorescent colours, as seen as the background.
This is also my painting exhibited in the interim show, "62 Hands".

The Glow of the Other World, Oil on Cavnas
Landscape
This is a series of two paintings, fantasy landscapes.
It depicts the secret paradise of mushrooms, Amanita Muscaria and Mycena Interrupta. The main elements are the mushrooms and the waterfall.

Series of The Art of Mushrooms, Acrylic on Panel

Series of The Art of Mushrooms, Ink Pen on Paper Mounted on Panel
The above is 8 individual illustration, 4 acrylics on panel and 4 ink pen on paper mounted on panel.
I have been wanting to show my sketches, these are my first try. Those are the most popular mushroom species, Amanita Caesarea. The Blewit and Amanita Muscaria.
I first tried pencil on paper, followed by ink pen on top. Since to display it, I have to mount it onto a panel. Then I thought of painting it directly on the panel and turn it into colours, as the acrylic paintings turn out.
